Second Presbyterian Child Care Center is a small child
care center in downtown Richmond Virginia, which operates as an
open school with an emergent curriculum. So what exactly does this
mean for your child?
It means we understand that young children learn by
doing, touching, experimenting, choosing, talking, and negotiating.
Their learning does not start and stop at the door of our center.
The whole world and daily life are learning opportunities for your
children. Our curriculum acknowledges and supports the interests
that emerge from the everyday experiences of our children.
Our staff is committed to helping children tap their
own inner resources and interests. Children choose with whom they
play, what materials they use and in what areas they work. Through
these choices, they come to realize the consequences of their decisions
and thus, the meaning of responsibilities.
Here, children grow as individuals. Because the center
is multi-cultural, children learn to live with others of various
groups and backgrounds. As they learn to value and respect one another,
they experience the value of diversity and the joy of community.
